Men's Weekly Spiritual Challenge

Leaders and Resolutions

Joshua 24:15 Choose this day whom you will serve….But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

This Sunday will start the New Year of 2023.  As this year ends, many people begin to consider and ponder so-called New Years’ Resolutions for the coming year.  This has become almost a tradition for many men to make a list of things of what they want to change, or do, or develop to make the new year better for their lives and families.  Resolutions often deal with physical condition such as weight loss, exercise, more sleep, nutrition or bad habits.  Others deal with family, work, finances, hobbies and even travel.  These are good and should receive our attention and commitment.  If we don’t have goals like these, we don’t have a challenge and plan for changes and growth.  Even before these considerations, we should think about committing to new spiritual resolutions.

Leaders and Resolutions

Joshua 24:15

From our verse in Joshua this week, I want to propose something new to you.  Rather than to make only New Years’ or annual resolutions, shouldn’t we make Daily Resolutions and let them accumulate daily to become our years’ resolutions?  Joshua made this a part of his daily life when he said. “Choose this day whom you will serve.”  This resolution was before Joshua in the day and times in which he lived and it is no different for us today.  It should be our resolution each day to start in prayer and Bible study to make this our choice.  Joshua went on to include both himself and his family when he stated, “But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”  This is not a singular statement but plural to include his family which should serve as a leadership example of us.  We should also focus on our spiritual growth and develop the mind and character of Christ in our daily walk.  We should ask God to show us each day what we are to do, where we are to serve and how we are to live for him.  Have you made some New Years’ Resolutions for 2023?  If so, pray about your daily resolutions in a way analogous to the relationship of days to months to the year.  God will reveal these to you.
