We provide care for preschoolers during the Sunday morning church service which begins at 9:45 am.  Our Little Life Groups starts at 11:00 am.

Nursery

At the Central Nursery, our desire is to provide a loving and safe environment for your child while laying a foundation for spiritual growth.

Our classrooms are open 15 minutes prior to regularly scheduled worship services, as well as Bible studies and other church activities with prior reservations.

Checking In and Security

A safe and loving environment is the top priority of the Preschool & Children's Ministries at Central. That's why we have chosen KidCheck to bring you the best experience at check-in and to provide you as parents the ability to team with us to keep them safe.

Signing up for KidCheck is easy and free for parents. Once you've created your KidCheck account, you can add your children and other guardians to make it easy for Central to identify them.

Check-in begins 15 minutes prior to the beginning of an event.

Please avoid going to your child’s room to check on your child. If you would like to know how your child is doing, ask a Nursery Assistant at the counter who would be happy to do so. One tearful good-bye should be all a little one should endure! Seeing other adults coming and going tends to upset the other children in the rooms as well.

Children will only be released to an adult with the KidCheck guardian tag and who is listed as an authorized guardian for the the child.

Parent Policies

The desire of Central Preschool Ministry is to provide the best experience possible for your child while they are in our care. We are providing you the policies and guidelines so you can help us do that. Should you have any questions with regard to these policies, please contact us and we will be happy to visit with you. It is a privilege for us to minister to your child and we are thankful and blessed for the opportunity each week.

1. Childcare will be available 15 minutes before any scheduled function/service begins.

2. Parents should pick up the child immediately following services or church functions. Childcare will remain open for 15 minutes after services close.

3. Please do not bring any children other than your own family which you have legal custody of to any weekday nursery for childcare. This does not include Sunday morning, evening, or Wednesday evening activities. This does include Women's Bible Studies and Central Moms.

4. All preschoolers must be checked in at the nursery counter using our KidCheck program. Click here to create your KIDCHECK account.

5. A parent or guardian must remain on Central property while your child is in our care, unless it is an event scheduled off church property (i.e. Junction).

GENERAL INFORMATION

1. Parents of any preschooler enrolled in Little Life Groups age 4 and under are asked to volunteer quarterly during worship time.

2. To avoid congestion in the Preschool area, have only one parent bring and pick up your child. Children will only be released to an adult with the KidCheck guardian tag and who is listed as an authorized guardian for that child.

3. Please do not leave your child in an unattended room.

4. Please do not enter the room when delivering or receiving your child. Observing this policy will relieve congestion in the room and keep children from being upset when a new person enters the room. If you must check on your child, please see the Nursery Assistant. They will check on your child for you. Parents will be called promptly if needed for any reason.

5. Label everything with permanent marker! (cups, lids, pacifiers, blankets, bottles, bags, etc.) Please do not send toys from home unless it is teething toy.

6. Please avoid long conversations with caregivers at the door because we feel your child should receive our undivided attention after he/she arrives. If you have a matter that needs attention, please see the Nursery Assistant and we can make arrangements to meet with the teacher.

7. The Preschool Facility is designed to ensure safety and a positive learning atmosphere for all children in our care. If a child misbehaves, they will be separated from the group for a short period of time. No physical punishment will ever be administered. If a child is seriously disobedient or abusive to other children or the teachers, their parents will be contacted and asked to pick up their child.

8. When your child has met a new developmental skill and has accomplished it well, together, the Nursery Director and the parent decide when to move your child to the next class.

9. Workers will not give medication of any kind to any child.

10. Conditions that would make it necessary for your child to be cared for at home:
Fever in the past 24 hours
Common cold
Green or yellow runny nose
Sore throat or croup
An unexpected rash or skin infection
Pink eye or any other eye infections
Vomiting and/or diarrhea in the past 24 hours
Any symptom of usual childhood diseases
** If your child arrives with any of these conditions, we will require that you keep them with you. If any of these conditions develop after being checked in, you will be contacted and asked to pick up your child. Please feel free to ask for clarification of this policy.

FEEDING

1. Please enter all allergies into your child's information on KidCheck so it will appear on their tag. We also provide allergy stickers for the protection of your child.

2. Snacks and water will be offered while your child is in our care. If special snacks are served a notice will be posted on the door of each room. Please advise the teacher and/or nursery director if you do not want your child to have the snack. We do encourage you to send a labeled sippy cup for your child.

3. Please do not bring meals or snacks from home for your child (except for children with allergies). The children are being taught how to share; thus it causes conflicts in the room when you bring food in for your child only.

4. For our younger kids, we ask that bottles be prepared, ready to serve, and fully labeled. We cannot mix your child’s bottle; however, we will heat it if you request.

5. No baby food will be fed by the childcare workers during normal nursery hours.

* These policies can be changed or amended at any time by the Director of Preschool Ministry or Central Baptist Church staff.

Weekday School

We are a state licensed preschool for 3 and 4 year olds seeking to provide quality, early education for preschoolers and to minister to them and their families in the name of Jesus Christ.

We believe preschoolers learn best through hands-on experiences, active involvement and play. Research shows preschoolers need to use all of their senses to understand their world. At Weekday, we incorporate this into our curriculum which is developmentally appropriate, child-centered, and Bible-based. Hands-on activities promote language development, reading/writing readiness, math concepts and social skills. Bible lessons, learning centers, art, music, and outdoor playground are all part of our daily activities. In addition, our students participate in on-site enrichment experiences, holiday celebrations, and special event days.

Your child will NOT have a spot in Weekday or be officially registered until you have submitted the registration form on-line and come in person to the Central Weekday office staff with a non-refundable $125 registration fee. Once the Weekday office staff have assured there is a spot, we will take the registration fee, confirm registration form submission, and ONLY then will your child be considered officially registered into Central's Weekday program.

  • Your child must be age 3 or 4 by September 1st.
  • Your child MUST be toilet trained by the first day of class.
  • Family cannot have an outstanding balance at MDO or Weekday.
  • Personally bring the $125 non-refundable registration fee and submit the completed registration form.

BY MONDAY, AUGUST 5, 2019, ALL REQUIRED FORMS MUST BE COMPLETED AND SUBMITTED TO THE WEEKDAY OFFICE STAFF TO HOLD YOUR SPOT.

  • Current immunization records are required before your child can attend AND if your child is 4 years old, we MUST have vision and hearing test results on file before your child can attend.
  • A statement from your child's doctor stating your child is cleared to participate in our program (or daycare) is required before your child can attend Weekday. This is a state requirement , and most doctors have a standard health statement they can sign and give you to submit to Weekday to meet state requirements.

Staff Requirements

At Central Baptist Weekday School, we model our program after the verse in Luke 2:52 that says, “And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.”

We want your little one to grow like Jesus did. In order to guide your child, we require all staff members to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. In addition, we require lead teachers to have a bachelor’s degree in child development, a teaching certification for early childhood education, or a combination of early childhood education certification and years of experience.

  • We are a state licensed childcare facility, and all staff members are FBI fingerprinted and have a criminal history check every 24 months per state minimum standards.
  • All of our staff is CPR/First Aid certified. Also, per state standards, each staff member has 24 hours of continuing education each year. The director is required to have 30 hours of continuing education each year.

We have a lead teacher and an assistant teacher in every classroom. We keep our classroom size small with no more than 12 to 14 children per class making our student/teacher ratio 12:2 or 14:2 at the largest.

What to Bring to Weekday School

Snacks are provided daily by our Weekday program. A snack schedule will be shared. If your child is unable to eat the provided snack, or if you would rather your child have a different snack, please provide an appropriate snack for your child. Each student should bring the following to school every day:

  • Lunch with an ice pack for perishable items
  • Backpack
  • Full change of clothes appropriate for the weather, including underwear and socks
  • Nap mat if staying for the extended day

Helpful Info About MDO

The MDO classroom distribution is based on the age of the child as of September 1st of the current school year, not developmental skills, If there is a strong concern by the parent about his/her child’s developmental maturity, exceptions can be made if there is classroom availability. *Your child will remain in the same class for the entire academic school year.

OUR TEACHERS

Our employees must first be Christians and meet approval by the Central Baptist Church Staff before any interviewing can take place. The hiring process includes a criminal history background check. Our employees are required to have 15 hours of training and staff development per school year. They are also required to remain current with their Infant/Child CPR certifications.

OUR CURRICULUM

We will be using the KidMin Lil'K Bible Curriculum and various Preschool Unit Books for our 2019-2020 academic school year. The Bible curriculum will offer fun lessons that will provide your child with a foundation to develop a lasting relationship with God. There is a Bible story, music, bible verse, and age appropriate activities with each unit for all of our ages beginning with the 1 year old classes. In addition, we will provide opportunities for your child to work and play together as a group in a friendly Christian environment, to gain new skills, to form good habits, and to learn to be a responsible member of a group. Curriculum calendars will be posted at the beginning of the school year.

OUR DAY

Your child’s day will begin with a warm welcome, morning snack, and opening activity. Beginning with our 1 year old age group, each class will rotate through Recess, Teaching Time, Bible/Music Time, and Sensory/Art Time. Our art projects will be hands-on and age appropriate. Lunch follows the rotations, then on to nap time. Each child is encouraged to rest quietly before preparing for pickup. Remember, each day is different and these schedules are meant to be flexible to meet the needs of the class. At the beginning of the year, a rotation schedule will be posted. Special activities and parties will be announced throughout the year.

DISCIPLINE

Redirection is the method used most often. If a problem with a child continues to arise, our policy is to discuss the problem with the child and to separate him/her from the situation or others if necessary. If a severe or recurring problem exists, parents will be notified. We reserve the right to remove any child from the MDO program who consistently causes harm to himself or others.

REGISTRATION/AVAILABILITY

If you are interested in enrolling your child and are new to the program, please contact the MDO office to check availability. Once availability is determined, you will be given a registration form that requires a fee to hold your spot, or be added to our waiting list (no fee required). We will need your child’s date of birth to determine availability.

FALL/SPRING semesters

Begins the Wednesday after Labor Day in September and ends the middle of May. We coordinate with the Bryan and College Station School District Calendars. Also, we follow their closings in bad weather and emergency situations. You are registered for Fall and Spring semesters with one registration fee in the Fall.

SUMMER semester

We meet for a short summer semester, the month of June. There are 8 days in our Summer semester.

HEALTHY, HAPPY CHILDREN

The health and well-being of your child is of critical importance to us. Please do not bring a sick child to the program. If a child shows any signs of illness, the parent will be contacted. In order to maintain a well-child environment, it will take the cooperation and courtesy of all involved.

Preschool Little Life Groups

PRESCHOOL WORSHIP HOUR

PRESCHOOL LITTLE LIFE GROUPS

11:00 am – 12:00 pm

Classrooms open for drop off at 9:30 am, 15 minutes before the church service starts. We accept children ages: birth through Pre-K. Nursery is provided for birth to 24 months, and Preschool care for 2 year olds through Pre-K. All preschoolers must be checked in at the Preschool Counter where classroom assignments will be given.

During the Little Life Group hour, Nursery rooms are staffed with paid nursery workers, while Preschool Little Life Groups have volunteer Teachers.

Preschool worship hour. Preschoolers checked in for the Worship hour will stay in their same classrooms for Little Life Groups. Our Nursery, birth to 24 months, is staffed with at least 1 paid nursery worker as well as many parent volunteers. Our Preschool Worship Hour Rooms, 2 years through Pre-K, are staffed with parent volunteers.

Friday Night JAM

Friday Night JAM (Jesus And Me) is all about infants through 5th graders having a great night of fun and learning about how much Jesus loves them. Come check out our Preteen (4th & 5th grade) special feature.

Each Friday Night JAM gives parents some well-deserved time away so they can focus on themselves or have a night out with other friends.

Friday Night JAM (was Junction) will be held once a month in September, October, November, February, and April at the church in the Central Town Square.

AGE GROUP

Children ages birth through 5th grade of Central Attendees are eligible to participate.

You may register your school and Preschool age child at the same location.

If your child has special needs, please contact the Special Needs Ministry to check for the availability of any support services that may be required.

Parent Dedication

Parent Dedication is a very special day where families come before the church and commit to raising their child according to God's word and guiding principles. Parent Dedication is opened to active Central Families.

We host a mandatory workshop prior to Parent Dedication Day. Attending the workshop is a prerequisite for Parent Dedication Day participation. At the Parent Dedication Workshops we cover topics such as biblical parenting principles & nursery procedures at Central. Childcare is provide by reservation only.

Director of Preschool Ministry

Sherry Maggard serves as Director of our Preschool Ministry.  After serving in the Mother's Day Out Program and Preschool Program for 10 years. Sherry became the Preschool Director in June of 2003.  She oversees the nursery, weekday programs, Mother's of Preschooler's (MOPS), and the Preschool Sunday School.  She also facilitates summer activities such as Preschool Fun Days for the Preschool Department.  She and her husband, David have two children, Clay and Melanie.
