Training the next generation to take next steps in their skills and spiritual journeys.

Central Sports is one of our most exciting opportunities to serve the BCS community. Our goal is to provide an environment that is focused (on the gospel) and fun (through sports). During each season, players receive Bible-based instruction designed to teach them about the good news of the gospel and show them that what they are learning on the fields can connect to their everyday lives.

Would you consider being a part of reaching the next generation through Central Sports?

FAQ

How Can I Get Involved?

There are many ways to get involved with Central Sports. Each role is a different time commitment, but they’re all vital parts of achieving our mission. As a volunteer, you can serve as a:

•Coach

•Referee

•Greeter

•Concession Stand Volunteer

•Evaluations Volunteer

*If you are over the age of 17, you must have a background check on file and go through our MinistrySafe training in order to volunteer in any capacity

What is MinistrySafe?

MinistrySafe is a comprehensive safety system designed to help churches and ministries protect children and vulnerable individuals from abuse. It provides training, background checks, policies, and screening tools to equip staff and volunteers with the knowledge and resources needed to create a safe and secure environment.

Evaluations

Each child goes through an evaluation process at the beginning of the season and we need your help to make it run smoothly. We’re looking for friendly volunteers to help with:

  • Running simple drills

  • Greeting families and athletes

  • Assisting at registration tables

Evaluations take place on three dates: July 19, July 26, and August 9
Even if you can help on just one of those days, it would make a big impact!

Coaching

Coaching is one of the most meaningful and time-intensive ways to serve in Central Sports.

As a coach, you do more than just show up for Saturday games. You’ll lead weekly practices, plan drills, set team rotations, communicate with parents, and most importantly, share the Good News of the Gospel with your team each week.

You don’t need to be a sports expert, but we do ask that you serve with excellence, lead with a positive attitude, and encourage each child to do their best.

All coaches are required to complete coach training and maintain reliable communication with both parents and league leadership.

Refereeing

Refereeing may not be for everyone, but we’re incredibly thankful for those who step into this important role.

We know it’s not always easy. You won’t always make the perfect call, and not everyone watching will always agree. That’s why we look for referees who can lead with confidence, serve with excellence, and keep a positive attitude, even in high-pressure moments.

Many of the families attending our games may not yet know Christ, and competitive emotions can run high. That’s why we ask our referees to have thick skin and a tender heart, firm and fair in the game, but always pointing others to Jesus through how they serve.

Referees are only required to be present during their scheduled Saturday game times and must complete our Referee Training before stepping onto the field or court.

Greeting

Greeters play one of the most important roles in Central Sports. They are often the very first faces someone sees when they arrive for a practice or game.

A greeter’s job? To serve with a warm smile, a positive attitude, and a heart full of the joy of the Lord. Greeters help direct families where they need to go, answer basic questions, and create a welcoming environment that reflects Christ from the moment people step on campus.

You don’t need to have all the answers, but you do need to be kind, approachable, and willing to say, “I’m not sure, but I’ll find out and get back to you!” . All greeters work closely with league leadership and help ensure things run smoothly and joyfully.

Concession Stands

Our concession stands are the most energetic spots outside the fields or courts.

We need team members who can assist with two key roles:

  • Serving customers at the counter, taking orders, and handling money

  • Prepping food behind the scenes to keep the line moving and the snacks flowing

Whether you’re working the register or preparing food, we ask that you serve with a cheerful attitude, a willingness to work quickly and efficiently, and a heart ready to bless others.

Those handling money should have a basic understanding of cash and card transactions. Food prep volunteers serve under league management and should be ready to jump in wherever needed with a grateful and team-oriented spirit.

Do I have to be a member of Central?

Simple answer: No, you don’t have to be a member of Central.

More in-depth answer: Central Sports is an outreach to our community, and we love when parents and community members step in to serve especially as coaches for their own child(ren)’s team.

While not everyone who volunteers is a member of Central, we do ask that volunteers be actively involved in another local church. Our heart is to partner with those who share our mission of pointing kids and families to Christ through sports.
